In Benin, 20ᵗʰ century, a unit of capacity used for grain and shelled groundnuts. According to source 1: stricken, 3.2 liters; average, 3.9 liters; brimming over, 4.4 liters. Source 2 gives 4.40 liters. Source 3 takes into account the extra amount, the brassée, sometimes given by the seller: 7 liters; with one brassée, 7.37 liters; with 2 brassées, 7.9 liters.
According to Bakary and Badou, the name derives from that of a village about 20 km north of Beterou.
