tzemed [Hebrew, tzemed in Hebrew characters]

An ancient Hebrew unit of land area, about 0.2 hectare (around ½ acre).

It occurs in the Bible, 1 Samuel 14:14 and Isaiah 5:10, where it is translated “acre.” In the King James Version, however the word in 1 Samuel 14:14 is translated “an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.”

The word also means “yoke.”
