It should be remembered that (a) these measures are based on certain weights of a common grain, which is rice or dhan (unhusked rice) in Kangra and wheat in the remaining area of inquiry; and (b) the topas are not of uniform capacity even in the same district but vary from village to village and in some places the variation is considerable.
