In Germany, a unit of length = 1 meter (39.37 inches), since adoption of the metric system on 1 January 1872. This value is recorded for Frankfurt am Main as early as 1812. Before metrication, the Stab was usually = 3¹⁄₃ Fuss, but it varied.
In Zurich, used for bales of cotton, by the ordinance of 24 Feb 1829 = 1.2 meters. The Konkordat of 1835, agreed to by twelve cantons, made the Stab in those cantons = 1.2 meters.
