Oil which is sold in botte is sold for so many perperi per botte di mezzo migliaio of Puglia, or rather at the price of the botte di mena of Naples, and must contain the botte di mezzo migliaio of Puglia and 57 saine, and the botte di mena of Naples must contain 76 saine.

If we take the botte di mezzo migliaio of Puglia as 300 liters, then the saina = ³⁰⁰⁄₅₇ = 5.3 liters. Taking the botte di mena of Naples at roughly 425 liters, the saina would be about ⁴²⁵⁄₅₇ = 5.6 liters. Another approach could be taken through Chiarini's observation that the botte di mena di Napoli is equal to the Florentine cogno, (Chiarini, 1481)
