saggio

(Plural, saggi.) In Genoa, Venice, Constantinople and the Levant, a unit of mass used for pearls and expensive spices, = ¹⁄₆ once = ¹⁄₇₂ libbre. Also spelled sazi and sazio.

In Venice, the sazio of the libbre grossa = 32 carati = 128 grani = 6.826 grams; the sazio of the libbre sottile = 24 karati = 96 grani, about 4.185 grams.
