A practical unit of magnetic flux, = 10⁸ maxwells or cgs magnetic units. From “practical” plus “maxwell”. Recommended by Sub-Committee 2 of the Advisory Committee on Nomenclature of the International Electrotechnical Commission, meeting at Oslo in 1930, but a number of national delegations objected to the term and it was not adopted.
