meio [Portuguese]

In Portugal, two units of capacity. (The fundamental meaning of the word is “half”.):

• a unit of dry capacity, about 6.92 liters (about 6.28 U.S. dry quarts)= 1/8 fanga or half an alqueire. Also called a meios-alqueire or meyo.
• a unit of liquid capacity, about 0.698 liters (about 0.737 U.S. liquid quarts), = 1/24 almude or half a canada.
