In Lower Austria, a unit of land area. Article 4 of the law¹ establishing the metric system in Austria specified that the niederösterrisches Joch was equivalent to 5,754.642 square meters (about 1.422 acres). Literally, “yoke” (of oxen), originally the amount of land that could be plowed in one day by a yoke of oxen.
