gōngqĭng [Chinese 公顷]

In China, 1959–present, a unit of area in the gong zhì simplified metric system, = 1 hectare. (UN 1966) link to a chart showing relationships between Chinese units of land area in the gon zhi system. The traditional character is 頃.

The word gong may be translated “official” or “public,” and in this context, “metric.”
