frigorie

In continental Europe, 20ᵗʰ century, a unit used in refrigeration. Symbol, fg. It is found in two different, highly-related forms:

a unit of energy = minus 4185.5 joules = minus 1 kilocalorie₁₅. This is the unit referenced when measurements are given in frigories per hour.
a unit of rate of heat extraction = removal of 1 kilocalorie₁₅ per hour, which is equivalent to about 0.000297 British commercial ton of refrigeration or 0.000331 American commercial ton of refrigeration.

The unit went out of use because of its small size.

In 1971, the European Economic Community directed that use of this unit cease by 31 December 1977.¹
