The chart is based on Zaccagnini's article, but, as he says, the figures “should be taken only as a rough approximation.” Zaccagnini's estimates were based both on tablets that gave both the dimensions of a field and its area, and on statements regarding the amount of seed needed to sow fields of a particular size. See his article for an interesting description of the confluence of varied lines of attack on the problem.
