In France, 16ᵗʰ – 18ᵗʰ centuries, two units based upon the perche de Paris (approximately 5.847 meters), each perche = 18 pied du roi. This is the most commonly encountered arpent. Sometimes spelled arpen.
A unit of area = 100 square perche de Paris, about 3,418.7 square meters (about 0.84 acre). This is the usual sense of arpent.
A unit of length corresponding to the side of a square whose area was one arpent, = 10 perche de Paris = 180 pied du roi (about 58.47 meters).
