Terms for the widths of cloth rolls

• kohaba = 1 shaku
• ohaba = 2 shaku
• mihaba = 3 shaku
• yohaba = 4 shaku

Terms for the lengths of cloth rolls

• 2 jō 8 shaku (28 shaku), about 9¼ yards.
• 5 jō 6 shaku (56 shaku), about 18½ yards.

1 tan = 1 shaku × 2 jō 8 shaku (about 15 inches by 9¼ yards)

1 hiki = 2 tan = 1 shaku × 5 jō 6 shaku (about 15 inches × 18½ yards).

ohaba 1 tan = 2 shaku × 2 jō 8 shaku (about 30 inches by 9¼)

White silk

For white silk the only traditional width is kohaba (= 1 shaku), in lengths of 3, 6 or 8 jō:

• san-jō-mono = 1 shaku × 3 jō
• riku-jō-mono = 1 shaku × 6 jō
• hachi-jō-mono = 1 shaku × 8 jō

Rolls of cloth used by Shinto and Buddhist priests

1 pon (or hon) = 1½ to 2¼ kujirashaku wide by 15 - 16 kujirashaku long
