Terms for the lengths of cloth rolls

1 tan = 1 shaku × 2 8 shaku (about 15 inches by 9¼ yards)

1 hiki = 2 tan = 1 shaku × 5 6 shaku (about 15 inches × 18½ yards).

ohaba 1 tan = 2 shaku × 2 8 shaku (about 30 inches by 9¼)

White silk

For white silk the only traditional width is kohaba (= 1 shaku), in lengths of 3, 6 or 8 :
