In the cantons of Vaud and Valais in Switzerland, a unit of length, = 0.3 millimeters (about 0.0118 inches).
German speakers call the same unit a Striche.
In France, the law of 13 Brumaire an IX (5 November 1800), permitted the millimeter to be called a trait. The law of 1837 abolishing the syst�me usuelle forbad use of all the old units, effective 1840.
