里 In Japan and North Korea, 20^th century, a unit of distance, = 36 chō, = 3.92727… (that is, 3 ⁵¹⁄₅₅) kilometers, about 2.44 miles.

The kai-ri or ri marin (“marine ri”) is another name for the international nautical mile.
