[Danish. Plural, fjerdinger] A Danish word meaning “quarter” or “fourth”, and as such currently used in, for example:

• fjerdingspund, a quarter of a pund;
• fjerdingvej, a quarter of the old Danish mile, about 1.88 kilometers;
• fjerdinår, a quarter of a year, 3 months.

It was also formerly:

• A unit of land area, 887 square meters (0.219 acres).
• A unit of capacity, 34.78 liters (0.988 bushels).

In Denmark, a unit of mass used for butter, = 2 ottinger = 28 kilograms.

[Norwegian] In Norway, a unit of dry capacity, = ¼ tønne = 2 skjepper = 36 potter, about 34.74 liters.
