cem�ztetl [Nahuatl]

In Mexico, at least as early as the 16th century – ?, a measure of length, the distance between the tip of the thumb and the tip of the outstretched index finger, about 15 to 17 centimeters. Also called a cem�ztitl. Literally, “a fingernail”. 

According to Molina (1571), “un xeme” (jeme).
