In France, 19th century, a unit of length formerly used in measuring the depth of water, conceptually the distance from fingertips to fingertips of the outstretched arms (it belongs to the fathom class of units). It = 5 pieds de roi, about 1.624 meters (about 5.328 feet).
In Russia, 19th century, a unit of length like that of definition 1, = 6 feet (about 1.829 meters).
