braça [Portuguese]

In the Cape Verde Islands, 20th century (UN 1966), a unit of length, approximately 2.20 meters (approximately 7.22 feet). According to Doursther (1840), it had the same value in Portugal in the 19th century. Link to chart comparing Portuguese units of length

Other authorities report the braça in Brazil during the 20th century with the same magnitude.

The braça is one of the units based on the distance between the fingertips of outstretched arms, like the English fathom. Compare the Spanish braza.
