The bak and the houn are the only two Laotian units of mass used both in ordinary trade and in the opium business. In ordinary trade, bak is a synonym for salung, and 1 bak = 2 fuang = 10 houn = 1/4 bat. In the opium trade, however, 1 bak = 10 houn = 1/10 bia or hong.
