aruzza

Not to be confused with the arruse

A unit of mass, conceptually the mass of a grain of rice, about 0.019 gram.

This unit is listed in Appendix 3 of Bruno Kisch’s Scales and Weights; we have not encountered it elsewhere. Because of the spelling and small size, and given Dr. Kisch’s special interest in pharmaceutical weights, it seems probable that this is a Spanish or Portuguese apothecary unit, perhaps informal, that he discovered in some obscure publication. We would appreciate a communication from anyone having more definite information.
