Cleaning rods for rifles and pistols from 22 caliber and up are threaded 8-32. The rod segment containing the handle ends with a female thread, and at the working end the brushes or other attachments have a male thread. The thread for 17 caliber is 5-40.
Cleaning rods for shotguns are threaded 5/16-27.
