An index of approximately 170 nations ranked by indicators of failure. The index is calculated annually by the Fund for Peace and Foreign Policy magazine. Full details at www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=4350 In 2008, Somalia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Chad and Iraq topped the list.
Perhaps more interesting than the rankings themselves are the changes in rankings from year to year. In 2008, for example, the index claimed marked improvement in Ivory Coast, Liberia and Haiti, and decline in Bangladesh, Israel/West Bank and Pakistan.
